A journey through the gateways of history

Lucca, one of the most charming cities in Tuscany, awaits you for an unforgettable journey through history, culture, and gastronomy. Known for its impressive Renaissance Walls, now transformed into a scenic panoramic promenade, Lucca preserves unique treasures within its ancient city walls.

We will begin our journey from one of the city’s three original gates:

  • Porta Santa Maria (North)
  • Porta San Pietro (South)
  • Porta San Donato (West)

Each of these entrances offers privileged access to the Walls, allowing us to admire the city from above. You will also have the opportunity to explore the interior of a bastion, discovering how Lucca’s defensive fortifications worked.

Squares: The beating heart of Lucca
Lucca’s squares tell the story of the city through centuries of architecture and tradition:

  • Piazza San Michele: The ancient Roman Forum, now one of the most elegant squares in the city.
  • Piazza Napoleone: The largest square, the center of city events.
  • Piazza Anfiteatro: The symbol of Lucca, an architectural gem built on the remains of an ancient Roman amphitheater.

Churches: Faith and art
Lucca is known as the “City of 100 Churches”.
During the tour, we will see:

  • The Cathedral of San Martino, home to the famous Holy Face (Volto Santo).
  • The Church of San Michele, with the story of Saint Davino.
  • The Church of San Frediano, where Saint Zita rests, also mentioned by Dante.

Towers: Unforgettable views
These ancient structures tell stories of power and wealth of Lucca’s noble families.

Streets and historic alleys
We will walk through medieval streets and admire majestic Renaissance palaces. A must-see is Via Fillungo, the main street for shopping and local traditions, and the setting for events such as the historic Holy Cross procession

  • Palazzo Pfanner: With its beautiful Renaissance garden, also visible from the city walls.
  • Palazzo Ducale: Located in Piazza Napoleone, symbol of the power of Elisa Baciocchi and Maria Luisa of Bourbon.

In the footsteps of Giacomo Puccini
Lucca is the birthplace of the famous composer Giacomo Puccini. We will visit the square dedicated to the great maestro, a must for music lovers.
